Introducing - Michelle Chang

Hello there!

My name is Michelle and I'm a 5th year at Cal majoring in Environmental Sciences. Born and raised in San Francisco, I grew up hiking the parks and walking the beaches of California. I knew I always loved the natural environment, but it wasn't until high school that I started gaining exposure on the concept of sustainability. Combined with a deep passion for the arts, my interests have steered me towards the goal of working in the sustainable fashion and beauty industry.

As my friends and family have often told me, I take way too many pictures. Of everything. I can’t really help it. I just really enjoy capturing those special, and oftentimes, unexpected moments. As the photography intern for the CoolCalifornia Challenge, I will be building a portfolio of images displaying sustainability in action. I really hope I can inspire others to learn to live sustainably through my work.

Aside from academics and work, I have been extensively involved in Berkeley’s dance community as a member in multiple campus dance groups including Danceworx, the [M]ovement, and Fei Tian Dancers and as a choreographer. Being a classically trained ballet dancer, I strive to explore new styles and Berkeley definitely gives me the opportunity to do so. I am also a UCEAP Student Ambassador, having studied conservation wildlife abroad in Australia this past summer. I had the time of my life there, in case anyone was wondering.

In my spare time I sing, swim, volunteer, enjoy the outdoors, dance some more, and of course, take gazillions of pictures.
